People Business

If you are in the people business are you really where you belong??
What I like to refer to as the "people business" is a wide range of careers: wait staff, retail, sales, communities, hoa, manager, and any other customer driven business you can think of. So ask yourself: if I am in a people business, do I remember why I am there and what the customer gets from the interaction? I would like to reflect on impact:

First Impressions

  • It's a common understanding that first impressions are very important, the business world is no different. A customer that receives outstanding service is likely to have a positive first impression of the company.

Loyalty

  • Good customer service promotes customer loyalty. Customers typically want to do return business with companies that treat them well during their interactions.

Word-of-Mouth

  • Word-of-mouth can work for or against your business and either be free advertising or free slander. If your customer service department treats your customers well, they'll likely spread the good word to their friends, co-workers and acquaintances.

Understanding

  • Good customer service leads to understanding your customers and their wants and needs. If you understand these things, you'll have accurate and valuable information about the kind of services and product your customers like.

Profit

  • The clearest motivation for excellent customer service is, obviously, profit. All of the previously mentioned benefits of good customer service will help build profit. If you're receiving new customers and your older clients are remaining loyal, this could drive up profits.
